Compulsive Gambling

Compulsive gambling is an independent psychiatric disease, which is characterised by the following features:

  • strong preoccupation with gambling
  • desired excitement can only be reached by risking higher stakes
  • unsuccessful attempts to control or quit gambling
  • not being able to gamble causes restlessness and irritability
  • gambling to escape problems or negative mood
  • Attempts to regain losses immediately (Chasing behavior)
  • lying to cover up the extent of gambling
  • gambling is financed by illegal actions
  • risk or loss of relationships and/or workplace because of gambling
  • player has debt problems caused by gambling
